BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) — The new road construction feature on the city of Bettendorf’s website includes everything from the timeline of projects to their cost.
City officials hope this will make it easier for citizens and employees to stay informed.
“The people of Bettendorf are practically demanding that we stay on top of our building plans and make sure their roads are easily traveled,” Mayor Bob Gallagher said. “And we don’t brag about how many potholes we fill.”
Gallagher knows people like to know what’s happening on their city’s roads.
This was one of the factors kept in mind when the city redesigned its website.
“We really wanted to find ways to communicate with the public about the interesting issues that they want to learn more about,” Gallagher said. “And do it in a way that they consume it better.”
The result is an interactive map that shows current road construction projects, including detailed descriptions, costs, contacts and timelines. Eventually, the city hopes to add even more features.
“We’ll be tracking traffic light construction, utility construction, if there’s any major projects going on,” City Engineer Brent Morlock said. “We will also try to follow for the public and our council, new residential developments and how they evolve.”
The biggest project on the map right now is the reconstruction of Forest Grove Drive and Middle Road. the $11,000,000 project, preparing for the expansion of the TBK sports complex, will add 3 roundabouts, paths on each side and possibly a pedestrian bridge on the intermediate road.
“You know, as we continued to see traffic and visitors increase at TBK. Obviously the condition of the road is something we hear a lot about,” Morlock said. federal funds that were already programmed, but we couldn’t touch them yet, so we had to wait a few years.
With the map, residents will be able to follow this massive project every step of the way and into the future of Bettendorf.
