Campbell signs up for national championships – Washington Daily News

Washington High School senior Laci Campbell will play softball at Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach, Va., In the spring of 2023.

The Marlins are the National Division III champions after winning their third title in four seasons last spring.

Campbell, a second baseman, helped the Pam Pack establish a 12-4 overall record, including an 11-1 final at the Eastern Plains Conference.

“She’s been a great player for us,” said Pam Pack coach Brad Horton. “She started in first year in right field for us and then moved on to second. She gives us speed on base, she’s a strong hitter and she has excellent hand-eye coordination. I think she’s going to have a great career there.

Campbell produced 0.571 for the pack, scored 24 points and produced 16, all second on the team. She also contributed four doubles and as many triples.

She has spent the past seven years playing for a Greenville-based travel team and that’s where the introduction of her future school happened.

She was part of a demonstration camp in East Carolina when Marlins assistant Jim Quinn removed her 2019 championship ring and urged her to try it.

“It was a little big on my finger, but it definitely piqued my interest,” Campbell said. “I have been to four or five camps there and have visited a few other times. I decided on Veterans Day 2020 when I was up there that this was the right place for me. It’s the perfect atmosphere and everything clicked during my visit. ”

Campbell will carry on the family tradition of softball. His older sister, Summer, won All-America First Team honors for Pitt Community College last spring. Former Pam Pack star led the Bulldogs with a

.514 average, 55 hits including 10 home runs, 53 RBIs and 16 goals stolen in first year.
