the Blackhawks loaned his sixth striker to a European side on Tuesday night with Brandon hagel at the head of HC Thurgovie in the Swiss second division.
The 22-year-old was the Blackhawks’ AHL MVP last season, scoring a team-high 19 goals and placing third with 31 points for the Rockford IceHogs. He made his NHL debut against the the Sharks on March 11 in the last game before the NHL suspended its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was a black ace for the Blackhawks’ playoffs in Edmonton, but didn’t play.
Hagel is the first non-European born player to be loaned abroad.
He joins his fellow prospect Philipp kourachev (HC Lugano in the first division) and new free agent Pie Suter (GCK Lions in second division) in Switzerland. Matej Chalupa (Mountfield HK) and Michal Teply (BK Mladá Boleslav) are both in the Czech Premier Division, Czech Extraliga, and Tim soderlund (Almtuna IS) is in the Swedish second division.
The six players will play for their respective European teams this fall until the start of NHL training camp in Chicago. The NHL and the NHL Players’ Association have tentatively agreed to a start date of December 1 for the 2020-21 season, with training camps starting November 17, but commissioner Gary Bettman admitted during the course. of the Stanley Cup Final that the start of the season could be postponed to December and even January.
