What Kirby Smart said about the Georgia-Arkansas football game
Kirby Smart on Arkansas: âWe go into the home game excited about Arkansas coming to play with us. I have a lot of respect for Sam (Pittman) and his team. They did a great job creating a new culture and a new energy there in Arkansas. I would expect nothing less from him. I am very grateful for what he did with our organization before he left. It will be an exciting atmosphere. I can’t wait to see the atmosphere created on Saturday. With our fan base and the early kick-off, that should be pretty interesting. Glad to see our guys getting ready to play in another big one.
At work, Sam Pittman did:âThere’s no quick way to describe it. It is a culture. It’s about creating the right atmosphere. It’s about getting key players into key positions. With the portal, the transfer situation, and the recruiting as it is, you can turn around a bit faster than maybe having to build from scratch. Felipe (Franks) helped last year. He had a quarterback who had experience with the SEC. Now he is able to play KJ (Jefferson) who has experience. A lot of our league is all about the quarterback game and how you make these guys grow up. They did a really good job doing this. He also has two very good coordinators. It’s part of being a good head coach. To have two guys with good experience in what they do.
On the defense of Arkansas: âFirst of all Barry (Odom) is doing a really good job. Barry is one of the few people who can be said to take what he has and get what he has to work really well. He was different in different places. He was not the same everywhere he went. He is metamorphosed. He changed. He changed with college football. He is innovative. He goes and watches and studies what other people are doing. It forces your hand to maybe play left-handed. You can’t do some of the things you want to do. He’s really good at it. Not only that, he has some really good players doing it. Make no mistake, it wasn’t Arkansas that we played last year. These guys up front, he’s got three transfers. Two from Missouri, one from the state of Illinois, and they’re playing extremely hard. They are extremely physical and create an immense amount of trouble for the people they play. They will not be taken lightly by this group because they do an incredible job of creating problems for infractions. Just look at what they did with the two big games everyone knows (Texas and Texas A&M), but they really did it in every game.
