New online platform makes it easier to volunteer and give to Detroit Metro nonprofits

Whether you want to donate your time for a good cause or have extra money to donate, sometimes the biggest obstacle is not necessarily the will, but the path.

For someone looking to give – whether it’s time, effort, or money – it can be a bit overwhelming to start looking for a nonprofit that matches their goals and interests. The truth is that there are hundreds of nonprofits in the Detroit metro that could use the help of a volunteer or the donation of a donor.

Enter SHARE Detroit, a new online platform that seeks to better connect volunteers and donors with Detroit Metro nonprofits.

“Local nonprofits depend on donating time and money to operate and yet it is particularly difficult for donors and volunteers to connect with causes they care about and identify how to contribute. to non-profit organizations in their own neighborhood. SHARE Detroit is changing all of that, ”said Janette Phillips, founding CEO of SHARE Detroit.

“We connect people to organizations where they can see the impact taking place. Investing in our community through philanthropy should be fun and accessible. We believe that by doing good together, we create a stronger, happier Detroit. “

There are over 100 nonprofits in the SHARE Detroit directory; the organization hopes to reach more than 250 by the summer. The SHARE Detroit Network nonprofits serve Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties and represent a wide range of interests.

For those looking for the right nonprofit that works for them, users can simply search three sections: Who It Helps, What It Impacts, and What It Causes.

Suppose you are looking for a nonprofit organization that helps children. Just click on the Kids tab and find over 80 nonprofits that do just that. Or maybe you are most interested in hiring a nonprofit that deals with animal welfare and conservation efforts. Or cardiovascular disease. The directory divides nonprofit organizations into categories that are both broad and very specific.

“We connect people to organizations where they can see the impact taking place,” says Janette Phillips, founding CEO of SHARE Detroit. Each nonprofit in the directory has a page that explains who they are and what they do, a Give Shop wishlist, where the association identifies the items they need, and a calendar of volunteer opportunities. .

“Helping bring this resource to life that can have such an impact on nonprofits in the region is truly rewarding. It’s a labor of love that I see working around the clock to help charities attract the volunteers and the funds they need so much, ”says Paul Vlasic, who, along with Sam Rozenberg, is among the early founders and backers of SHARE Detroit.

“Community service and philanthropy have always been an important part of life, and my family and I appreciate the opportunity to help Detroit Metro nonprofits complete their missions – faster and easier – everything. helping volunteers and donors discover greater meaning and a better connection in their contributions. “
