New York Mets beat Los Angeles Dodgers with nine-game winning streak

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Javier Báez netted an RBI brace in the first leg of his first game back from injury, Jd davis had a home run and produced four runs, and the New York Mets ended the Los Angeles Dodgers’ nine-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory on Sunday.

Marcus Stroman (9-12) pitched six four-hit innings for the Mets, who avoided a four-game streak sweep and a seven-game season sweep to the Dodgers with just their second win in 10 games at the total.

Báez made an immediate contribution on his return from an 11-game absence due to back spasms, leading one point and scoring another in the opener against three of the Mets. David Price (4-2).

Báez added a brace with two strikeouts in the seventh for his second multi-hit game since joining the Mets last month from the Cubs. Davis quickly brought him home by logging in Phil bickford for its first home run since July 17, ending a 33-game shortage.

Davis also produced runs with a single in the first and a walked walk loaded in the ninth.

Cody bellinger had a two-run single in the fourth, but the Dodgers ‘second nine-game winning streak in two months ended just before becoming the defending World Series’ longest streak since 2017. Los Angeles lost 2 1/2 games behind San Francisco atop the NL West and MLB overall standings.

Price had three hits, three runs and two walks in four innings. The 2012 AL Cy Young award winner has not had a win in 11 starts – none having lasted six full innings – since being forced into the Dodgers’ rotation due to injury.

Stroman earned his third win in 13 starts despite allowing several hard-hit balls early in the powerful Dodgers lineup. The veteran right-hander allowed two runs and two walks with six strikeouts.

The Mets had been 3 for 47 with runners in scoring position against the Dodgers this season heading into the first inning, when Davis and Jonathan villar both have passed. Los Angeles outscored their opponents 10-0 in the first inning on their winning streak.

Veteran reliever Neftalí Féliz pitched a perfect eighth inning for Los Angeles in his debut for their seventh major league team. The Dodgers signed Feliz to a minor league contract last month shortly after Philadelphia nominated him for an assignment.

Féliz was the 36th pitcher this season for the Dodgers, whose staff struggle with constant injuries.

Shane Greene went on to become the Dodgers’ 37th pitcher in the ninth, but was called out after giving up a single with an out, hitting two Mets with throws, then hitting Davis after taking the 0-2 lead .

Los Angeles signed Greene on Friday, six days after his release from Atlanta.
