Niagara Wheatfield Community Education

“Come Together” is the theme of the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District Fall 2022 Community Education Program. Registrants are invited to gather and join our exceptional instructors and other participants to learn, share and have fun!

Our fall session, which runs from September 14 to December 15, has many new and exciting offerings. There are free courses, paid courses, face-to-face courses, as well as online courses – a little something for everyone! Gather around and try out all the arts and crafts offerings from making beautiful hand-woven baskets to making wooden decorations for Halloween, winter and your family tree. Participants are invited to come together to learn how to sew, paint, draw and recognize creative skills they never knew they had! Our adult swim lesson is back early in the morning, along with an eight-session line dance lesson.

Drawing has been proven to help students develop fine motor skills, encourage visual analysis, teach creative problem solving, establish concentration, improve hand-eye coordination and increase individual confidence. This session, we are proud to offer an after-school abstract artist series for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students will be introduced to artists’ works, create a work of art, and end each encounter with a game that reinforces the artist’s style.

In addition to the after-school Abstract Artist Series, K-5 students can participate in a six-week after-school program specifically designed for young students to learn the Spanish language. Older students are encouraged to enroll in many of our college preparation courses.

Returning from this session is the engaging “The Fun Defensive Driving Course”. This one-of-a-kind Improve Points and Reduce Traffic School program is the only humor-based course approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. “Laugh a little and live a lot” and you’ll laugh at our points and save 10% on your auto and motorcycle insurance plus 4 points on your DMV record.

At the request of past participants, we are pleased to offer a three-session American Sign Language course. Participants will learn proper hand shapes, sign space, sign settings, alphabet, numbers, introductions, personal information, yes/no questions, basic greetings, and education on deaf culture.

Music offerings consist of face-to-face and online guitar lessons, piano lessons, and voice lessons. Our ever-popular Health & Fitness (Body, Mind & Spirit) and Finance classes offer a variety of offerings, which fit many different schedules. A “Monthly Book Club” will be held throughout the term. Attendees are encouraged to register and review the requirements in order to be prepared for the first meeting.

We’re always looking for upbeat and enthusiastic instructors who have skills, hobbies, or expertise they’d like to share with our community. Beginning instructors, as well as seasoned presenters, are encouraged to offer classes for Spring 2023. Community education classes are a great way to promote your work, network, and meet new clients.

Get together to try new or familiar classes! At the earliest, pre-registration for each course is required. Instructors need to know how many students will be present to help them plan materials. Late registration may result in the cancellation of a course due to low registration numbers. Participants can view and register for courses through our registration software at https://nwcsd.coursestorm.com/.
