Renew your driver’s license online now


Thiruvananthapuram: More services of the Department of Motor Vehicles regarding driver’s license have gone online in accordance with the “faceless” mode of service delivery.

In order to benefit from these services, it is no longer necessary to visit the offices of the RTO.

From Thursday, the services concerning the issuance of the learner’s license, the renewal of the driving license, the request for a duplicate of the lost license, the modification of the name, photo, address or correction of the date of birth are totally online.

The Union Department of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification last year that people will no longer need to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for up to 18 services, including those for renewing the driver’s license, registering vehicles, obtaining a learner’s permit, etc.

The Aadhaar Authentication-based contactless system that has been established aims to provide convenient and hassle-free services to the citizens.

These are the documents necessary for the renewal of the driving license.

1) Self-attested eye test report / medical report (form
2) Scanned photograph
3) Scanned signature
4) Authenticated copy of the license
5) Authenticated copy of proof of address (only if the address needs to be changed)

There is a perception that only those over 40 need the eye test report. However, everyone must submit this report for license renewal.

Here’s how:

1) Click on ‘Apply for DL ​​Renewal’ on
2) Enter the details; these details could be reused. You will receive a message containing the request number on your mobile number. This should be saved.
3) Upload scanned images of the above documents. Make sure these files are not too large.
4) Pay the prescribed fees.
5) The application procedure ends when the form is submitted. The RTO will assess the request and make a decision. You will receive these details in the form of an SMS.
