Washington @ Stanford
Current records: Washington 3-4; Stanford 3-4
What there is to know
After two road games, the Stanford Cardinal returns home. Their week off ends as they meet the Washington Huskies at 10:30 p.m. ET at Stanford Stadium on Saturday. Washington should still feel good after a win, as the Cardinal looks to regain a foothold.
It was tight but no cigar for Stanford as they lost 34-31 to the Washington State Cougars two weeks ago. Stanford was leading 13-0 at the end of the first quarter, but couldn’t hold onto the lead. A silver lining for them was the play of QB Tanner McKee, who had two touchdowns and 273 yards on 32 attempts in addition to having a rushing touchdown. McKee’s performance made up for a slower clash against the Arizona State Sun Devils three weeks ago.
The special teams collected 11 points for Stanford. K Joshua Karty delivered a perfect 3v3 game.
Meanwhile, Washington didn’t have too much leeway in their game against the Arizona Wildcats last Friday, but they came away with a 21-16 victory nonetheless. The victory came thanks to a strong push after half-time to overcome a deficit of 13 to nothing. WR Terrell Bynum was the offensive star of the game for the Huskies, catching five passes for a touchdown and 143 yards.
This next contest is expected to be close, with the Cardinal becoming a favorite by just 2.5 points. Neither team has fared well ATS – they’re 2-4, while Washington is 1-5.
Stanford and Washington are now at an identical 3-4. A pair of defensive stats to watch: Stanford is the 238th worst in the country in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 17 this season. The Huskies have had an even tougher time, stumbling into the game with the 201st most rushing TDs allowed in the country, after allowing 11 in the season. It’s possible that one of those Achilles heels will end up tripping the losing team.
