TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – In what was arguably the most disheartening loss of the season, the Wildcats lost a 16-7 lead as the Washington Huskies came back from behind to beat the ‘Arizona 21-16.
The Huskies scored 14 unanswered points, the first touchdown being the result of Arizona’s only turnaround of the night, when Tuli Letuligasenoa intercepted Will Plummer at the Huskies 29-yard line. It took Washington four games, four games to find the end zone. This shifted the momentum in favor of the Huskies who have never looked back.
Arizona’s only touchdown came from a one-yard run from Jamarye Joiner. 3 Arizona home goals accounted for the remainder of the points.
Will Plummer, who was making his first start since losing to NAU, threw for 63 yards.
The Wildcats didn’t have two starting quarterbacks. Jordan McCloud injured his knee and ankle in loss to UCLA on October 9 while Gunner Cruz injured his thumb in loss to Colorado on October 16.
With Cruz and McCloud absent for the season, Plummer took the start. He threw for 57 yards and the costly interception early in the fourth quarter.
Arizona did most of their damage on the ground with Stevie Rocker Jr. running 87 yards and Jalen John adding 65 yards.
Jamarye Joiner, a wide receiver from Cienega High, ran just 25 yards but hit a touchdown for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats haven’t beaten the Huskies since 2014 and lost 44-27 in last year’s meeting in Seattle.
The Cats hit the road next week in an attempt to end their 19-game losing streak at USC. Game time on Saturday is 4:00 p.m.
