Westfield Library Announces Programming | News, Sports, Jobs


WESTFIELD – The Patterson Library in Westfield will host several March events for children and teens.

Until March 17, children 12 and under can give their best “pixie traps” for a gift basket. Submissions must not exceed one gallon of milk and are due before closing time on Tuesday, March 15. Library supplies will be available for use. Submissions will be displayed in the library for patrons to view. Traps will be scored on creativity and use of green (a leprechaun’s favorite color), with the winner being announced on social media on March 17. All traps will be available for pickup afterward.

Teen Dungeons and Dragons continues Wednesday, March 16 at 4 p.m. Beginners and experienced players are welcome.

Children and teens learning Spanish can receive homework help and practice during our “Spanish hour without appointment” at 4 p.m. on March 3.

The Patterson Teen Action Board meets March 4 at 4 p.m. Have your say on what’s happening at the library for teens and gain leadership experience and volunteer hours.

The library’s new Teen Anime Club continues Monday, March 7 and 21 at 4:30 p.m.

March 8 marks the beginning of the next “Take-away kit” with a silhouette cut homeschool craft. Learn to count with gold coins. Library officials will keep the Silhouette Cameo 4 on file for parents to enter and use at any time on the Silhouette Cameo 4 in the library.

On March 18 at 4:30 p.m., the library will host a miniature figurine painting workshop for children aged 10 to 18. Miniatures and supplies are provided. Children will also have the opportunity to use an airbrush.

A Super Smash Bros tournament will return to the Patterson Library at 4 p.m. on March 28 for all kids under 18.

In addition, the following story times will be offered:

¯ story time after school on March 9 at 4 p.m.

¯ a little food-themed story hour at 10 a.m. on March 11 at Patterson Park. For kids 2-5, head to Patterson Park Pie Day Story Time at 10:45 a.m. for a special pie-themed storytime with a pie courtesy of Portage Pies.

¯ On March 18 at 10:45 a.m., Patterson Park will host a bilingual story hour with Taylor Abbott.

¯ On March 25, two story hours will take place. At 10:00 a.m. there will be a little fairytale-themed story hour, followed by a “At the castle” Storytime at Patterson Park at 10:45 a.m.
